Indigenous Peoples History Month Road Trip

Welcome to June 2024!

As a queer Indigenous historian, I am real serious about the month of June. Last year I offered free history services for my community. 2024 is different. Years 4-7 of my PhD are kicking my ass. This Indigenous Peoples History Month I am untethered from institutions (see previous blog post). I have time to explore new things!

Indigenous Joy is the theme of June 2024. My day to day writing work does not bring me joy. I work at my own happiness to varying degrees of success each day. My dissertation work is emotionally draining. I sit at my desk and grit my teeth: why do I want a doctorate degree? Of all the things I could be doing right now, why am I reading my child welfare case file? The answer is: this work needs to be done and I have the skills to do it.

That being said, I need a break. My childhood pal, Doctor Brittany Hicks, MD, planned a road trip to Saskatoon for us (and Winston). Highlights include Agawa Bay, Kenora, and Grasslands National Park. You can expect lots of funny, silly, and educational content from us on the road.

If you would like to tag along with us, check out the calendar to see where we at in the journey. Follow me on Instagram. The best way to support us is through my coffee button.

You can also buy an armband on my shop page for $15. As always, your donations support me by paying my bills while I complete dissertation work. Every Child Matters armbands are available while supplies last. Armbands will ship beginning of July 2024. Feel free to reach out, come celebrate with us all month. Happy Indigenous Peoples History Month! Happy Pride Month!
